Relative Had Stroke While Far from Home

What is the best way to help a close relatiuve who had a major stroke while far away from home?  It is impractical for his wife to be by his side constantly due to economic and child care reasons.  The patient does not communicate well, so it is hard to know what progress or problems he has.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thank you.
