Adams is a caregiving expert and visionary leader who comes to CAN with over two decades of experience in not-for-profit leadership—scaling organizations, strengthening infrastructure, ensuring financial sustainability, and initiating DEI initiatives.

Press Release: Family Caregivers Want Drug Approved for Hallucinations and Delusions (6/17/2022)

CAN CEO, John Schall, testified in front of the FDA’s Psychopharmacologic Drugs Advisory Committee in support of approving Acadia Pharmaceuticals Inc.’s supplemental new drug application for NUPLAZID to treat the hallucinations and delusions associated with Alzheimer’s Disease psychosis. If approved, the drug would be the first therapy for the treatment of these behaviors associated with Alzheimer’s-related psychosis.

Community Care Corps Funds Volunteer Models to Aid Struggling Caregivers, Older Adults, and Persons with Disabilities (9/7/2021)

Community Care Corps is pleased to announce the funding of innovative local models nationwide using volunteers to help family caregivers, older adults, and persons with disabilities with non-medical services to maintain independence in their own homes. Community Care Corps is awarding grants totaling $2.85 million to 33 innovative local models nationwide.  126 organizations responded to the 2021 Request for Proposals to receive funds for their models.

Caregiver Action Network Launches New Web Resource for Helping a Loved One with Day-to-Day Activities (8/4/2021)

Being a caregiver is stressful. When you add in helping their loved ones with many of their day-to-day activities, it can become overwhelming. Most family caregivers need to assist their loved ones with activities of daily living (ADLs)—eating, bathing/showering, dressing, mobility, and using the toilet. For someone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, assisting with these types of activities may be happening more often.

Caregivers of loved ones with dementia are about to get more help thanks to Caregiver Action Network (CAN). CAN is launching a new digital tool, Lighting Your Way: Dealing With the Behavioral Symptoms of Your Loved One’s Dementia, to help caregivers better understand some of the symptoms that can accompany dementia and what can be done about them.

Community Care Corps Funds Volunteer Programs to Aid Struggling Caregivers, Older Adults, and Persons with Disabilities (6/7/2020)

Community Care Corps is announcing the grantees of a new and unprecedented program to help older adults, persons with disabilities, and family caregivers. This momentous leap forward will help countless people and will have a lasting impact not just on the families and individuals served, but also on those who serve their community as volunteers.

Community Care Corps Issues Request for Proposals (1/15/2020)

Community Care Corps has released a Request for Proposals (RFP) for innovative local models in which volunteers assist family caregivers or directly assist older adults or adults with disabilities with non-medical care in order to maintain their independence. Caregiver Action Network Assembles Winning Team for National Volunteer Care Corps (9/11/2019)

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) awarded a five-year cooperative agreement to the team that Caregiver Action Network (CAN) assembled to establish a National Volunteer Care Corps. CAN, the nation’s leading family caregiver organization, put together the winning team that includes the Oasis Institute, the National Association for Area Agencies on Aging (N4A), and Altarum Institute. This team will launch a national program to foster innovative models in which local volunteers assist family caregivers, older adults, or persons with disabilities with nonmedical care in their own homes in order to maintain their independence.

Rep. Lujan Grisham Signature Care Corps Grants Passed & Funded
Celebration of Lifelong Effort to Support Caregivers, Seniors & Individuals with Disabilities
(9/26/2018)

The House of Representatives voted to pass the fiscal year 2019 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) appropriations bill, which included $5 million in funding for Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s signature Care Corps grants. These grants would place volunteers in communities to provide non-medical services to seniors and individuals with disabilities so that they can continue to live independently in their homes and communities.

Caregiver Action Network Launches Family Caregiver ECHO® to Provide Family Caregivers in Medically Underserved Areas with Interactive Online Mentoring and Support (6/25/2018)
