My name's Vanessa, and I'm part of a team of college students that aims to create programs that help people feel better and give them a voice. After hearing and reading powerful stories from caregivers such as yourselves, and after talking to caregivers like you, we realized that you deserve recognition and support for all you do. For this reason, we've theorized some programs that could help, and it would be amazing if you could tell us what you think.
Our first idea is a documentary series that tells stories of every day caregivers just like you, where you tell us about your experiences, what you've learned, and what you want the general public to know about the experience of being a caregiver to a loved one.
Our second idea is a national movement for a caregiver policy change, in which we would band together to make compensation for caregiver work (at home) more accessible. We would do this through a YouTube storytelling series, magazines, and an ad campaign that features you all as "Bedside Warriors", with your own ribbon symbol to show your strength to the world.
Our third idea is an IOU network, where you could actually connect in person with other caregivers in your area for support and to share duties as a care giver with IOU's. In addition, you would be able to learn a variety of valuable skills from other caregivers as well as patients.
Lastly, we had an idea for a research program in collaboration with hospitals and academic institutions. Researchers could likely benefit from observations and measurements you take at home of your ailing loved one, especially over a long period of time. There could likely be recognition or compensation for your work.
We hope that through these ideas, you can share your stories of strength to the world, and get recognized as the truly remarkable and caring people that you are.
