Transportation for wheelchair user?

Not a regular caregiver but I'm arranging a short ride to church for a fellow parishioner, and I'm told to call for a wheelchair accessible cab. This is done every week for this older gentleman -- but for some reason, the cab isn't at all dependable. Sometimes shows up more than a half hour or hour late, or not at all. There has to be a better way! Ideas, anyone? Thank you!

I know this was posted a while back, but thought I'd answer it since noone else has. Unfortuantely, the wheelchair accesssible cabs / vans are in high demand and low supply. What that means is that they are often late or don't show up. This isn't an issue specific to your town as it happens in mine as well.

Unfortunately, your are limited. You really need to keep trying different companies until you find one that is reliable. The only other thing I can think of is to see if he can safely get out of his wheelchair and sit into the car seat on his own (or with the help of someone else). Then his wheelchair can be folded up (unless it is an electric or special tilt wheelchair) and placed in the trunk of the cab. Hope that helps!
