Help for Caregivers of Loved Ones Facing Addiction, Mental Health & Pain Management Challenges

Washington, DC — CAN is pleased to announce the launch of the Families, Addiction & Mental Health Network (FAM), dedicated to supporting families and caregivers of loved ones living with mental health or addiction challenges.
Amidst the nation’s compounding crises in mental health, addiction, and opioid overdose, CAN recognizes that family caregivers need specialized support and resources now more than ever. The challenges families face are distinct and urgent. FAM will serve as a timely educational hub to empower families and caregivers with tailored resources, advocacy tools, and community connections.
As an estimated 80 million Americans receive prescriptions for acute pain each year, managing pain safely can be a serious challenge for patients and families with addiction, risk of abuse, or other health challenges. Caregivers need specialized support to make informed decisions about pain treatment options, especially as new treatments become available.
That’s why FAM is launching with a campaign to support caregivers navigating acute pain treatment options. The pain education campaign will advocate for policies and programs that address pain management so that all families, caregivers, and patients have the tools and resources they need to make the most informed treatment decisions.
The pain education campaign brings together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Black Health Matters, PALs (Patient Advocacy Leaders) United for Veterans, and Patient Mind.
