Caregiver Action Network Announces Fellowship to Honor the Policy Legacy of Late CEO, John Schall

Caregiver Action Network is proud to announce the establishment of a new policy fellowship to honor the legacy of CAN’s late CEO, John Schall, and his numerous policy contributions during his decades of working in Washington, DC. The John Schall Policy and Programs Fellowship creates a seat at the table for aspiring leaders to foster and refine their policy skills, while continuing the important work that Schall held near and dear.

CAN Statement on the Bill to Lower Costs for Family Caregivers

Washington, DC (November 15, 2023) — Caregiver Action Network (CAN) is proud to stand by family caregivers and endorse the Lowering Costs for Caregivers Act. This act would allow individuals to use their tax-free health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts on medical expenses for their spouses and dependents as well as for their parents. As of now, American caregivers are struggling to pay costs for their loved ones’ needs out-of-pocket.

Rosalynn Carter Remembered for Her Compassion and Dedication to Family Caregivers

Caregiver Action Network was saddened to learn about the passing of Rosalynn Carter. The Former First Lady was known as a fierce advocate and leading voice for family caregivers across the country, in addition to significant contributions to social causes such as mental health care, human rights, and social justice. She famously said that there are four kinds of people—those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers, and those who will need caregivers.

Caregiver Connections: Just Keep Dancing

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 – October 15, the U.S. celebrates the contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans, Latinos, Latinas, and Latinx-identifying people to our culture and society. This is the story of Deborah, a Latinx woman who cared for her mother, who immigrated from Brazil. Deborah's mother was diagnosed with ALS in January 2020. She was given 2-5 years to live and passed away on March 27, 2022.
