My mom, who has COPD, CHF and kidney failure, has been on home hospice since June. About a month ago, shortly before she went into the hospital for an unrelated condition, she began to show signs of confusion. Shortly before that time, she began to get forgetful. Since that time, she has days where she appears out of her head (holding a conversation with someone not there, in her own world, etc.) or she is clear but cannot get her words to come out right. The hospice book, and the hospice people, both tell us that this is normal. I have having trouble wrapping my mind around this one. She is on multiple medications, including for pain and agitation (as needed), and antidepressant. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a chance that antidepressants and pain meds react upon each other?
